ICEYE
A SAR constellation with a public open-data browser and contracted catalog sales.
Published by ICEYE.
In short
ICEYE operates a synthetic-aperture radar constellation. The open-data initiative says you can browse and download a public SAR set with no registration and no paywall, through a map browser, a STAC browser, or AWS. The constellation API docs describe a separate catalog where a contract sets the price of a commercial frame, and where the public catalog items expose low-resolution assets until you own the scene. An open scene is a radar observation. It is not an optical photo and not a person.
Product pricing strategy
02
Free and paid
ICEYE's open-data page says the public scenes are free: no registration and no paywall. The API guide says commercial catalog prices depend on the contract, that not every contract has a pricing plan, and that you should read hasPricingPlan rather than guess. No dollar figure was printed in that guide. Do not copy another vendor's SAR rate onto ICEYE. If you buy through SkyFi, quote SkyFi's page for that order and say so.
Utility and features
03
ICEYE's open-data page says the public set needs no registration and no payment. Three doors are named: an Open SAR Data Map Browser with filters for location, mode, and date; a STAC browser for SLC, GRD, and COG assets; and the AWS Registry of Open Data. The page shows an example label for Angkor Wat. It does not print a commercial rate card.
- Three free doors. The initiative page names a map browser, a STAC browser, and an AWS open-data bucket.
- Previews versus owned scenes. The API guide says public items carry low-resolution assets and full products sit on scenes you own.
- Price is contractual. The same guide says to read hasPricingPlan and not to invent a number from a failed call.
The constellation API guide says the public catalog can be browsed by anyone and that those items include low-resolution assets. Full-resolution downloads sit on scenes you own. A price check exists only when the contract has a pricing plan, and the same frame can cost different amounts under different contracts. The guide says not to infer a missing plan from a failed request. SkyFi's site describes an ICEYE US self-service path powered by SkyFi. That is SkyFi's checkout, not the open-data browser. This listing did not open a private ICEYE contract.
- 1
Start at the open-data initiative and use the map or STAC browser for a place you are allowed to study.
- 2
Record the mode, the date, and whether the file is a public preview or a purchased product.
- 3
If a price call fails, check hasPricingPlan before you tell anyone the scene is free or forbidden.
- 4
Use Umbra's open program or Capella's contracted console when the ICEYE public set has no scene.
Caveats
04
The open set is what ICEYE published, not every collect the constellation made. A missing scene is a gap in the public release. It is not proof the satellite did not image the place. Public catalog items, the API guide says, include low-resolution assets. Do not brief a preview as the full product.
A contracted price is that contract's price. The guide is explicit that two contracts can disagree. SAR still needs a mode and a time in the caption. It does not identify a person. On 16 Oct 2026 the public map read 640 of 640 scenes with every mode selected, and 28 of 640 after the filter was set to Spot. Those counts are that day's catalog, not a permanent size.

Potential use cases
06
- You need a public SAR scene and you do not have a contract. Open the ICEYE map browser linked from the open-data docs. On 16 Oct 2026 it read 640 of 640 scenes with every mode selected. Filter by mode when the question is a specific product. Setting the filter to Spot that day changed the counter to 28 of 640. Record the mode, the acquisition date, and whether the file is the public asset or a full-resolution product you own.
- A price call fails and someone concludes the scene is either free or forbidden. The API guide says to read hasPricingPlan and not to infer a missing plan from a failed request. Two contracts can price the same frame differently. The open-data initiative is the free door: no registration and no paywall, with low-resolution assets on public catalog items. A SkyFi purchase of ICEYE is SkyFi's checkout. Say which door you used.
- The public set has no scene of the site. That is a gap in the release, not proof the satellite never imaged the place. Switch to Umbra's open program if that site is one of Umbra's published locations, or to a Capella contract if one exists. Do not brief a low-resolution preview as the full product. The guide separates those assets.
Hard cases
The case where the first result is easy to over-read.
Today's scene count is treated as the archive size
The 640 and the 28 were the counters on the public map on 16 Oct 2026. ICEYE can add or remove open scenes. Quote the counter you saw and the date, then download the scene you will actually cite. A preview thumbnail on the map is not the SLC or GRD file. Use the STAC browser or the AWS open bucket, both named on the initiative page, when you need the asset rather than the pin.
Questions
Is ICEYE free?
The open-data initiative is free and does not require an account. Commercial frames are priced on a contract, and that price was not printed on the docs page.
Is the public catalog the full-resolution product?
The API guide says public catalog items include low-resolution assets. Full-resolution downloads belong to scenes you own.
