OFAC Sanctions List Search
Free OFAC name search. Not for continual automation.
Published by Office of Foreign Assets Control.
In short
OFAC Sanctions List Search is Treasury's search for the SDN list and OFAC's other sanctions lists. On 22 Oct 2026 the search page said matching is approximate, that OFAC does not recommend a confidence rating, and that the tool is not a substitute for due diligence. FAQ 287, released October 10, 2014, says the tool is free for individual users and should not be run continually by automated systems. The SDN line said last updated 10/21/2026 12:35:16 PM. No dollar price and no SPDX field were printed.
Product pricing strategy
02
Free
FAQ 287 says Sanctions List Search is a free tool provided by OFAC. No dollar price was printed on the search page, the FAQ, or the Sanctions List Service page opened 22 Oct 2026. No SPDX field was printed. Free, in that FAQ, is the public search for an individual user. The same answer says continual automated searching of the tool is not the intended use, and it points bulk users to the list files. Those files are not a second price. The phone number and the email on the Sanctions List Service page are support contacts. They are not a fee. A confidence slider is a match setting. It is not a paid tier. If a vendor resells the lists, that vendor's price was not on these pages.
Utility and features
03
The search page at https://sanctionssearch.ofac.treas.gov/ says it covers the Specially Designated Nationals and Blocked Persons list and the other sanctions lists OFAC administers. It tells the reader to watch the program codes on a returned record. It says matching is approximate, that a slider sets a confidence threshold, and that OFAC does not recommend a confidence rating. It says use of the tool is not a substitute for due diligence and does not limit criminal or civil liability. The footer of that page said the SDN list was last updated 10/21/2026 12:35:16 PM and the Non-SDN list was last updated 10/19/2026 10:02:09 AM.
- FAQ 287 says the tool is free. Released October 10, 2014. Individual users, not continual automated searches. Bulk files are XML, CSV, PIP, DEL, and FF.
- Two list timestamps. The search page said SDN last updated 10/21/2026 12:35:16 PM and Non-SDN 10/19/2026 10:02:09 AM.
- No result page was captured. A scripted search did not post. The form stayed on the disclaimer. No hit is described.
FAQ 287 asks who may use Sanctions List Search and whether an automated system may use it continually. The answer, dated October 10, 2014, says it is a free tool for individual users looking for potential matches, and that it should not be utilized by automated systems configured to continually run searches through the tool. For bulk files it points to XML, CSV, PIP, DEL, and FF files on the SDN and Consolidated Sanctions List pages. The Sanctions List Service page says that service provides downloads and the search application, and it gives technical support as O_F_A_C@treasury.gov or 1-800-540-6322, menu option 8. A scripted Entity search from this browser did not post. The form stayed on the disclaimer, with no result rows.
- 1
Use the search page for a single lookup. Use the list files when the FAQ's continual-automation limit applies.
- 2
Keep the program code with any hit. The page says the code tells you how to treat the record.
- 3
Do not describe a result from this review. The scripted search did not return one.
Caveats
04
The search page and FAQ 287 disagree in age, not in the free-tool sentence. The FAQ was released October 10, 2014. The SDN timestamp on the search page was 10/21/2026 12:35:16 PM. Quote the FAQ for who may automate the search, and quote the search page for the list timestamp. A similar-question title on the FAQ page asks about an upgraded version made live to the public. That title is not an answer this review opened.
A scripted search did not return rows, so this listing has no result to describe and no screenshot of a hit. A name match, when a search does return one, is a list hit. The page says it is not due diligence and does not limit liability. Program codes on a row tell the reader which list a hit belongs to. Do not drop them. Downloading the published list files is the bulk path the FAQ names. Scripting continual queries against the search form is the use the FAQ says not to make.
Potential use cases
06
- A bulk screen is about to be pointed at the search form. FAQ 287, released October 10, 2014, says Sanctions List Search is a free tool for individual users and should not be utilized by automated systems that continually run searches through the tool. The bulk path it names is the XML, CSV, PIP, DEL, and FF files on the SDN and Consolidated list pages. No dollar was printed.
- The list date is about to be taken from the FAQ. The search page on 22 Oct 2026 said the SDN list was last updated 10/21/2026 12:35:16 PM and the Non-SDN list 10/19/2026 10:02:09 AM. FAQ 287's release date is October 10, 2014. Quote the search page for the timestamp and the FAQ for the automation limit.
- A scripted search is about to be described as a hit. The form loaded, and the search did not post. The page stayed on the disclaimer, with no result rows. There is no hit to summarize. The search page says a match is not a substitute for due diligence and does not limit criminal or civil liability. Keep the program code when a real search returns one.
Hard cases
The case where the first result is easy to over-read.
The 2014 FAQ is called the list date
October 10, 2014 is the release date of FAQ 287. The SDN timestamp on the search page was 10/21/2026 12:35:16 PM. A memo that says the SDN list was updated in 2014 is using the FAQ date for a different object.
Practitioners using it
Posts on X from people describing a concrete use. The quote is the post. Likes and reposts are the counts saved with it, not a live total. A label marks a creator, a maintainer, a vendor, a partner, a data partner, or an investor.
1/ Overlap check complete, as promised: all 14 mesh addresses (4 hubs, 4 feeders, 2 loop wallets, 4 sinks) crossed against OFAC SDN digital-currency entries and previously-attributed TRON clusters in public reports/indexes (check date 26 Sep 2026). Result: zero public overlaps —…
What this does NOT show: who owns these addresses. The chain shows where money sits, not whose hands it's in. TRM Labs, who investigated the theft, declined to attribute it to anyone. Neither address matched the OFAC SDN list we checked. That proves nothing either way.
