Bellingcat Auto Archiver printed no dollar price on 24 Oct 2026. The GitHub API license field was MIT. The repository page said MIT license. PyPI’s license_expression was MIT. The LICENSE file is the MIT grant, copyright 2021 Stichting Bellingcat. Those three agree on MIT. They are not a hosted fee. The README’s Docker and pip lines do not name a plan. Stars were 1.1k on the page and 1138 in the API. Release v1.2.9 was published 2026-09-01T10:10:06Z. PyPI’s version string was 1.2.9. The Read the Docs HTML title said v1.2.7. Quote the docs title beside the release. Do not average 1.2.7 and 1.2.9 into another version. pushed_at 2026-09-10T12:54:16Z is not the release timestamp. The 404 on bellingcat.github.io is not a price page.

Utility and features

03

The README says Auto Archiver takes URLs from a CSV file, Google Sheets, the command line, and other sources, and archives each one. It names social media posts, videos, images, and webpages, and it says content can be saved locally or to an S3 bucket or Google Drive. The install lines on the README are a Docker pull of bellingcat/auto-archiver and pip install auto-archiver. The repository page showed Star 1.1k, 114 forks, MIT license, and release v1.2.9 as latest. The API returned stargazers_count 1138, SPDX MIT, and pushed_at 2026-09-10T12:54:16Z. The release v1.2.9 was published 2026-09-01T10:10:06Z. PyPI version 1.2.9 reported license_expression MIT. The LICENSE file is the MIT grant, copyright 2021 Stichting Bellingcat.

  • MIT in three places. The API field, the repository page, and PyPI’s license expression say MIT. Copyright 2021 Stichting Bellingcat. No dollar price.
  • v1.2.9 and a docs title of v1.2.7. The release was published 2026-09-01. PyPI says 1.2.9. The Read the Docs title says v1.2.7. The push was 2026-09-10.
  • Sheet, CSV, and the command line. The 2022 article names a Google Sheet. The README also names CSV and the command line. The GitHub Pages URL 404’d.

https://auto-archiver.readthedocs.io/en/latest/ returned HTTP 200 to curl and the HTML title was Installation — Auto Archiver v1.2.7. Chrome on that host stopped at a Cloudflare check. The docs navigation lists a command-line feeder, a CSV feeder, and a Google Sheets feeder. https://bellingcat.github.io/auto-archiver returned Site not found, HTTP 404. A 22 Sep 2022 Bellingcat article says the tool archives a post by entering a link into a Google Sheet. The README’s command-line and CSV lines are later than that article. This review did not run an archive job.

  1. 1

Quote MIT from the API field. The page and PyPI say the same identifier.

  2. 2

Keep v1.2.9 and the docs title v1.2.7 apart. Do not date the release to the 10 Sep push.

  3. 3

Do not describe an archive this review did not run. A saved copy is not the original post.

Caveats

04

v1.2.9 is the GitHub release and the PyPI version. v1.2.7 is the Read the Docs title for the page curl saved. Chrome did not get past Cloudflare on that host, so the body of the docs was taken from the curl response, and the title is what that response printed. 1.1k and 1138 are the page and the API.

The 22 Sep 2022 article describes a Google Sheet. The README also names a CSV file and the command line. Use the sentence that matches the interface you mean. This review did not archive a URL. A future run should use a page you are allowed to copy. The tool can fetch social posts. That is not a reason to collect a private person’s accounts from this listing. No dollar price was printed. The GitHub Pages host 404 is not the project.

Potential use cases

06

  • The docs title is about to replace the release. On 24 Oct 2026 GitHub release v1.2.9 was published 2026-09-01, and PyPI’s version was 1.2.9 with license expression MIT. The Read the Docs HTML title said Auto Archiver v1.2.7. pushed_at was 2026-09-10. The page said 1.1k stars. The API said 1138. Quote each string with its source.
  • The 2022 article’s Google Sheet is about to be the only interface. That article says the tool archives a post by entering a link into a Google Sheet. The README also names a CSV file and the command line, and local, S3, or Google Drive storage. Use the sentence that matches the interface. This review did not run an archive job.
  • A GitHub Pages 404 is about to be cited as the project. https://bellingcat.github.io/auto-archiver returned Site not found. The repository that loaded is github.com/bellingcat/auto-archiver. The license field was MIT, copyright 2021 Stichting Bellingcat. No dollar price was printed. A saved file would be a copy, not the original post.

Hard cases

The case where the first result is easy to over-read.

v1.2.7 and v1.2.9 become one version

v1.2.9 is the GitHub release of 2026-09-01 and the PyPI version. v1.2.7 is the Read the Docs title curl saved. Averaging them, or dating the release to the 10 Sep push, merges three timestamps the sources kept apart.
