Planet Insights Platform
Planet's web platform for PlanetScope, mosaics, and public satellite collections.
Published by Planet Labs PBC.
In short
Planet Insights Platform is Planet Labs' web and API workspace for satellite imagery. The pricing page lists self-serve Insights Flex plans at $1,100, $5,500, and $12,000 a year, billed annually at a 17 percent discount, with monthly monitoring credits. Those plans cover PlanetScope scenes that are 30 days old or older, plus public collections such as Sentinel and Landsat. Fresher tasking is an enterprise sale. A scene is what a satellite recorded. It is not a live camera, and it does not name a person.
Product pricing strategy
02
Premium
Quote the Insights Platform pricing page, not a memory of an older Planet plan. On 16 Oct 2026 that page listed $1,100 a year for 7,000 monitoring credits a month, Professional at $5,500 a year for 40,000 credits a month, and Scale at $12,000 a year for 100,000 credits a month, with annual billing marked 17 percent below monthly. The signup page adds a 30-day trial with 3,000 credits and no credit card. The docs say monthly credits reset and do not roll over. Next-day and near-real-time scenes are not on the self-serve Flex card. Do not invent a per-scene dollar price from the credit table.
Utility and features
03
Planet's pricing page for the Insights Platform describes Insights Flex as self-serve access to monthly mosaics, archive PlanetScope that is 30 days old or older, and public Earth-observation data, without defining an area of interest up front. The same page prints three annual prices: $1,100 a year with 7,000 monitoring credits a month, Professional at $5,500 a year with 40,000 credits a month, and Scale at $12,000 a year with 100,000 credits a month. It says annual billing is 17 percent less than monthly. The credit examples on that page are about 200, 1,000, and 2,500 square kilometres a month of PlanetScope tile streaming, or about half of that if you order the data instead. A one square kilometre minimum is printed for PlanetScope scenes.
- Self-serve archive, sales for fresh. The pricing page keeps 30-day-and-older PlanetScope on Flex and sends next-day tasking to the sales team.
- Public collections in the same login. The same page and the signup page name Sentinel and Landsat beside Planet data.
- Credits, not a flat map. The docs define monitoring credits for ordering, streaming, processing, and storage, with a monthly reset.
The signup page says a new account can try the platform for 30 days with 3,000 monitoring credits, no credit card, including open Sentinel and Landsat collections and Planet Sandbox data, plus the Catalog, Process, OGC, and Statistics APIs. Next-day and near-real-time imagery, and committed areas of interest, are described as sales conversations. Planet says it may limit access in some regions. Sentinel Hub's old EO Browser is not this listing. Planet told users that browser would close on 20 March 2026 and pointed public Sentinel work at Copernicus Browser.
- 1
Read the current Insights Platform pricing page before you quote a plan.
- 2
Use the 30-day trial only on an area you are allowed to study, and watch the 3,000-credit meter.
- 3
Record the sensing time and whether the scene was 30 days old or a newer product you bought separately.
- 4
Use Copernicus Browser when the question is a free Sentinel frame and you do not need PlanetScope.
Caveats
04
A PlanetScope frame is an observation with a sensing time and a resolution. The Flex plans on the pricing page are for scenes 30 days old or older. A picture from last month is not the ground today. Clouds and the satellite's revisit still apply. Planet says it may limit some regions.
Monitoring credits are the meter. The docs say unused monthly credits do not roll over. Streaming tiles and ordering scenes spend credits at different rates, and the pricing page's square-kilometre examples are illustrations, not a promise that your area will cost that many credits. The credit table in the docs prices newer scenes higher, and some of those rows are blank for Flex. Do not describe a pixel as a vehicle or a person.
Potential use cases
06
- You need PlanetScope of a site and the scene can be 30 days old or older. Read the Insights Platform pricing page and pick the credit band before you draw the area. The page's examples, about 200, 1,000, or 2,500 square kilometres of streaming, are illustrations. Watch the meter on the account you are allowed to use. Record the sensing time. A frame from last month is not the ground today.
- The job is a free Sentinel look, not PlanetScope. Use Copernicus Browser. Planet said the old Sentinel Hub EO Browser would close on 20 March 2026 and pointed public Sentinel viewing at that browser. Do not spend monitoring credits to answer a question the public viewer already shows. If you still need Planet's basemap beside the Sentinel frame, say which login produced which file.
- A colleague quotes a per-scene dollar price that is not on the pricing page. Open the page again. The self-serve cards on 16 Oct 2026 were $1,100, $5,500, and $12,000 a year, with monthly credits that the docs say do not roll over. Next-day and near-real-time scenes were a sales conversation. Write the plan name and the date. Do not convert the credit table into a dollar price the page did not print.
Hard cases
The case where the first result is easy to over-read.
The trial credits run out mid-review
The signup page offers 30 days and 3,000 credits with no credit card. That is a meter, not an unlimited map. When the balance hits zero, stop and say which scenes you already ordered. Do not open a second trial to finish the area. Ask whether the job fits a paid Flex plan or whether Copernicus Browser is enough. Unused monthly credits on a paid plan do not roll over, so a quiet month is not a bank.
Questions
Is Planet Insights Platform free?
The signup page offers 30 days and 3,000 credits with no credit card. The pricing page's paid plans start at $1,100 a year. It is not a permanent free viewer.
Does this replace Copernicus Browser?
No. Planet said the old Sentinel Hub EO Browser would close on 20 March 2026 and pointed public Sentinel viewing at Copernicus Browser. Planet's plans add PlanetScope and a credit meter.
